Experience
For the past four years I have worked in various positions in a K-8 school near Asheville, NC. The school is distinguished for its focus on using arts integration to teach the Common Core/NC Standard Course of Study curriculum. I have worked in the after-school program, as a teacher assistant and special education teacher and worked with students with a variety of needs including those with mild, moderate and severe disabilities. I have attended many trainings including NCDPI's Reading Foundations and Buncombe County Literacy Council's Augustine Project tutor training. Additionally, I have extensive tutoring experience with both young- and adult-learners with both Spanish and English language learners wishing to improve oral fluency, comprehension as well as literacy skills. I have also worked for four years leading the youth component of a summer health promotion program for Latino families through the YWCA of Asheville. My greatest strength is my flexiblity in teaching style and delivery. With a student-centered approach, I truly enjoy seeking out clients strengths and areas of passion to promote curiosity and support self-motivation to obtain positive outcomes. I also recognize that there are many types of learners with various needs and I seek to accomodate preferences whether that means visiting a home or school, arranging a quiet place to meet, or teaching a kinesthetic learner in a park.

I like to spend time with family and friends, garden, cook, and explore the outdoors. I enjoy hiking and pick-up soccer or basketball games for exercize. Recently I have been learning more about working on my CR-V and organic gardening. i enjoy learning from others and discussing many topics. I have travelled extensively in my wife's home country, Peru. We would like to have our first baby soon. For now we have a 10-year-old bearded dragon named Bro-bro.
